Hello there!

I am Sunakshi (SJ)

a multi-disciplinary designer with 5+ years of experience working with Product, Business, Operations, Supply Chain, CX, Communications, Human Resource, and Marketing teams;

Looking for innovative ways of problem-solving,

Thinking about what inspires people,

Experimenting how ideas can be executed,

Listening to people's stories...

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY FIELDS

CX Designer & Strategist | Information Architect

Human+Context Centered Thinker | Problem-Solver through Storytelling

Architect | Paper Artist

because how else can you understand the complexity around humans?

What is my story?

My introduction to 'design with and for humans' thinking began with my undergraduate education in Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture in India. During that time, I had the privilege of engaging with brilliant minds, exploring how cultures, human behavior, and our surroundings influence identity. I became deeply curious about how people interact with their environment and how these contexts shape their needs and desires.

This framework became the core of my design thinking and guides me as I approach any problem or opportunity, always starting with the question: how will this create value for people? Why will they use it and what can they achieve from it?

I went on to work as a Process & Service Designer in an e-commerce healthcare company for 2 years in India, building systems and leading expansion drive of 40+ Fulfilment Centres in more than 10 cities. This was my first introduction to the world of Business and Operations. Working in a corporate set-up, I developed an affinity towards collaborative working, learning— When working with people with different goals and objectives,  how do you communicate effectively what problems you are trying to solve and why?

I quickly realised the need to iterate what design does, rather than just creating pixels. To utilise the full potential of design in business, operations, we organised brainstorming sessions and design workshops opening avenues for collaboration. This effort helped in changing conversation from

"This is what design does" to "This is what design can do to help achieve..."

And very quickly we saw design being involved in core conversations. By showing interest and asking questions, I also started developing business and operations acumen.

Why is this important?

Because I realised the untapped potential we all have once we start understanding or be open to understand what others do and why they do it that way... therefore reducing friction and truly working together to create magic.

This is when the customers can truly be served. Because we as a team truly understand what is the root cause of something at fundamental, technical and social levels and can therefore address it holistically.

THE PRESENT

How to best use my knowledge of human experiences in physical spaces and use digital interfaces to enhance it?

Finding new experiences

Currently based in DC.

Experiencing architecture, history, and vibrant public spaces of the USA. Visiting the Smithsonian Museums to see how different touch points shape human experiences.

Love learning languages. Speak English, Hindi, Korean, Japanese (basic)

Having worked/lived in different countries, I have realized that language provides a unique viewpoint into different cultural practices and helps us better understand why people do what they do.

Freelancing work with new and upcoming brands to help them create their brand identity.

Commissioned art/illustrations in my free time

MY LEARNINGS:

Experimented with a
small business...

Started a small business of handcrafted paper products during the lockdown of COVID-19.

With a lot of unused paper material from my undergraduate education in Architecture, I started making paper products and sharing it with people around me, eventually gaining traction and leading to tailor-made orders for 50+ customers

MY LEARNINGS:

  • Enjoyed learning about customer interactions (acquisition and retention), and working with them to craft a customized product.

  • Learnt how business strategies ties with product strategies.

  • Figured out product packaging & logistics, product pricing, material procurement, market need, and product's ABC analysis for demand forecasting.

  • Experimented with online marketing using Instagram.
